The Z/28 is Back:
And it means business. In addition to a cosmetic refresh, Chevy claims the new Z/28 is actually track ready, and while it’s difficult to believe this heavy Chevy can take on other modern track cars, it still sounds promising.
Using the LS7 V8 from the Corvette Z06, the new Z/28 is rated at 500hp, 470 lb-ft torque. It’s also fitted with a huge K&N intake and out the other end, exhaust bypasses the muffler during hard acceleration.
For braking? Some nice big Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes behind some 19-inch wheels on Pirelli PZero tires. And unlike most track cars these days, it’s only available with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Thanks to some weight reduction, the car weighs 300lbs less than the ZL1, they removed carpeting where it wasn’t necessary, no sound deadening, thinner windows, no fog lights, optional A/C, they even attempted to remove all speakers from the car but had to keep one so the driver could hear the seat belt chime. The stock seats are also replaced by some Recaros.
Of course all this would be pointless without the proper suspension, the Z/28 gets spool-valve dampers with stiffer springs and bushings.
But enough of all the words & numbers, let’s see it in action!
