You’ve probably seen photos of these loud cars here and there but it’s time for more than photos..
If you haven’t figured it out already, Motor Technik Mayer is long for MTM. They have taken three great, small cars and made them better (from a boy racer’s perspective although even some boy racers can’t stand to look at them).
MTM boasts that their work on the ECU, engine overhaul with new turbochargers & intercoolers, and stainless steel exhaust systems are tested and proven for reliability on the road and track.
Of course custom packages can also be had, for a price. Buyers can pick and choose from their list of performance upgrades which is almost endless. Basically, your wish is their command if you can afford it.
There are 3-stages of the MTM RS3 Clubsport available; the first takes the 340hp engine and bumps it up to 410hp, the second brings it to 424hp, and stage 3 offers 472hp.
And you can’t have a power increase without an increase in braking power, the RS3 gets some top of the line Brembo brakes. MTM also offers an advanced track-based computer system that studies your every move and the driver can choose from 3-modes; race, sport, and street.
The MTM TT-RS Clubsport gets a lot of the same love the RS6 gets. With an upgraded ECU, bigger turbo, a new exhaust system, big Brembo brakes, 20-inch BIMOTO wheels, and the same exterior race inspired treatment. Horsepower is also bumped to 472.
The newest to the MTM-Audi connection is the A1 Nardo Edition. It’s a different story with the A1. Instead of making what Audi has supplied on the A1 better, they’ve swapped the original A1 engine for the 2.5L 5-cylinder TT-RS engine and tuned it from 340hp to a whip-lashing 500hp.
That amount of power in such a small car was a challenge but the biggest challenge was the A1’s front wheel drive system. Grip wasn’t as much of an issue in the RS6 & TT-RS because of their AWD systems. To help cope with this power, MTM added a limited-slip differential and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
On top of this they rang up Michelin to help with developing a new tire exclusively made for the car which have been proven to be vital at high speed tests.
In addition, the car has been stripped of excess weight by removing the rear seats and the front seats have been replaced by some carbon fiber Recaro sport seats but the navigation, sound system, and A/C unit remain.
